GFWC Hartford
Women's Club
Hartford, Wisconsin
Beginning in 2007, the Hartford Women's Club has undertaken bringing the FILE OF LIFE to Hartford. Endorsed by both the Hartford
Police Department and the Hartford Fire & Rescue Squad, the FILE OF LIFE card enables medics responding to an emergency to obtain
a quick medical history when the patient is unable to offer one.
The card, which is kept in a red plastic pocket labeled FILE OF LIFE, lists the patient's name, emergency medical contacts, insurance
policy numbers, health problems, medications, dosages, allergies, recent surgeries, doctor's name and health care proxies. The entire
packet is held with a magnet to the outside of the refrigerator.
In addition to the FILE OF LIFE for the refrigerator, a compact version is available for a person to carry in a wallet or purse. A card
containing the same medical information is enclosed in the plastic case that is with the person at all times.
The FILE OF LIFE is sponsored by the American Red Cross.
If your group is interested in learning more about the FILE OF LIFE or in having the program presented at one of your meetings, please call
Sue Lunger at 262/673-6668.
